Capitol Modern: the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum

Hands-on art making activities for all ages! Museum galleries will be open with the "2026 Hawaiʻi Regional Scholastic Student Art Awards", "Schaefer Portrait Challenge" and "Contemporary Portraiture: Art in Public Places" exhibits. Free admission. Workshops include "Rooted in ʻŌhiʻa: Growing Artists and ʻŌhiʻa" with Marion Ano of Kilo Books Hawaiʻi; "A Voice in Shapes and Colors" mixed-media with Erika Pascual; "Talking Gongs" Filipino gong rhythms with Ron Querian of House of Gongs; "Currents" Filipino dance workshop with Lydia Querian; "Theatre Games for All Ages" with Michael Cowell of The Drama Crew; "Layers of Play: Exploring Shape and Texture" printmaking activity with Bonnie Kim; "We Got the Beat" percussion rhythm echo game with James B. McCarthy; making bead necklaces and bracelets with Kilikina; "Flowers of Mauka Lani stamp making" with Elizabeth Gannaway; and making mosaics from debris with Manny Aloha. Please note that the Hawaiʻi Regional Scholastic Student Art Awards ceremony will be taking place on the front lawn at the same time. We expect a larger than usual crowd and recommend allowing extra time to find parking or use public transportation or rideshares if possible.
