About the exhibit
“I Am An American: The Nisei Soldier Experience” is a powerful
new traveling exhibit, telling the storied history of American
soldiers of Japanese ancestry who demonstrated their loyalty
through military service during World War II, amid the racial
tension that followed Japan’s attacks on Pearl Harbor.
Visitors will witness dozens of firsthand accounts, historical
photos and rarely displayed artifacts that present the
extraordinary courage and sacrifices of Nisei Soldiers. More than
33,000 Nisei Soldiers served in the U.S. Army, serving in Europe,
the Pacific, and stateside, most notably as members of the
Military Intelligence Service, the 100th Infantry Battalion, and
the 442nd Regimental Combat Team—the most highly decorated
unit in U.S. military history for its size and duration of service.
“I Am An American” is presented by the National Veterans
Network (NVN) with the National Museum of the United States
Army and supported by The Army Historical Foundation. Learn more about the exhibit at nvnvets.org/exhibit.
